Correct tire pressure increases safety and driving performance
Having the correct tire pressure is of utmost importance for driving your car safely and comfortably. You can only get the best performance out of your car tires when they are able to provide enough stability and bearing capacity. The correct tire pressure is crucial therein.
Car tire pressure
Tire pressure that is too low or too high has a direct negative impact on the performance of your car tires. In addition, it can seriously affect road safety. Driving with underinflated or overinflated tires leads to an increase in fuel consumption and quicker wear on your tires. This means you will have more fuel expenses, and your tires will have to be replaced sooner.
Correct tire pressure ensures:
- Better driving performance.
- Increased road safety.
- Reduced fuel costs.
- Reduced wear on tires.
- Tire pressure that is 25% too low increases rolling resistance by 10%. This increases your fuel consumption by approximately 2%.
- Tire pressure that is too low or too high causes reduced tire grip on the road. This increases your stopping distance and may cause you to skid.
- Tire pressure that is too low or too high increases your chances of having a tire blowout.
- Low tire pressure decreases your car’s ability to cope with road surface irregularities.
- Tire pressure that is too low or too high deteriorates road holding. Steering capabilities are optimal when tires are inflated correctly.
- Driving with overinflated or underinflated tires causes uneven tire wear.
What is the correct tire pressure?
ENNIA recommends checking your tire pressure monthly. You should also check the spare tire regularly to avoid unpleasant surprises in the event of a flat tire. It is important that the tire pressure on both sides of each axis is the same. It goes without saying, that you should make sure the tire valve is closed with a valve cap.
- The correct tire pressure for your tires can be found in your car’s owner’s manual, on a sticker inside the car door, or on the fuel filler flap.
- The manufacturer may specify a different pressure for driving while your car is fully loaded.
- You can fill your tires to the correct pressure at tire service shops, gas stations and at car washes.
- Always use a tire pressure gauge for this.
- Unscrew the cap from the valve and press the nozzle of the pump onto the valve. Regularly check the tire’s pressure by looking at the gauge. If you are having someone else fill your car tires, make sure they check the tire pressure.
- Do not forget to regularly check your spare tire as well.
- Perform a tire pressure check every month and check each tire for damage.
Tire blowout and tire pressure
Driving around with tires that are underinflated or overinflated increases your chance of a tire blowout. Tire blowouts can happen to any vehicle.
