GreenKidz and ENNIA introduce educational program 'Mosquito prevention'

At our request, Greenkidz translated the ENNIA Mosquito Prevention Handbook to an educational and preventive activity book for children. GreenKidz coordinator Maya Mathias: "Our Mosquito Detection Program 'Don't give mosquitoes a chance' sponsored by Rotary Club Curaçao focuses on awareness and prevention. It teaches children how mosquitoes transmit dangerous diseases, how to detect mosquito hotspots and most importantly, how to prevent mosquito bites. With support from ENNIA, we now have been able to add a colorful Mosquito Activity Book for children ages 8 to 12 to this teaching program. This Activity book contains educational assignments, games, coloring pages and a mosquito prevention test along with an accompanying mosquito prevention certificate. We use the ENNIA Mosquito Prevention Handbook as a very up to date and relevant reference book for local teachers, who get to work with our teaching program.

First to go digital on the islands

Mathias: In our teaching program, we use beautiful mosquito dolls and educational pictures and coloring pages, and we even created a mosquito scavenger hunt across the schoolyard. In addition, for the first time we have created a series of mosquito e-learns that children can follow for free in Papiamentu or in Dutch from their cell phone, iPad, laptop or computer, with ENNIA's Mosquito activity book also available for download in digital form. This is a first. We want to capitalize on the trend that more and more children and schools are using digital tools to gain new knowledge. 'The bilingual teaching program (Papiamentu and Dutch) is GreenKidz' first blended learning or hybrid teaching program. It combines traditional learning materials with online learning materials that children can follow independently using their mobile, iPad, or computer.

Free teaching packages for all schools in the Dutch Caribbean

Mathias: "With this program we spread our wings to the entire Dutch Caribbean. Our preventive mosquito e-learns and colorful Do-It-Yourself books are digitally available for all the islands. The colorful mosquito activity books will be provided digitally and as a hard copy by ENNIA and printed in four languages: English, Dutch, Papiamentu and Papiamento. As a foundation we are very happy with this. In Curacao, the free mosquito education packages for all FO and SO schools are distributed through Mensing’s Caminada, where each school receives a package of manuals for teachers and activity books for students. With this green prevention program, GreenKidz and ENNIA accomplish the mission ''Changing the mindset of generations' and 'Moving towards a healthier Dutch Caribbean.'
